Rev. Joseph HutchinsonAfter being members of the East Bethel Baptist Church for over 30 years, God told Rev Joseph Hutchinson to take his family and leave.  For a year Rev. Hutchinson, his wife Viveca and daughter Viveca Chavonne visited many churches in the Delaware area.  Finally in May 2003, God led them to a small church in Claymont, Delaware.

In September 2003, while visiting relatives in South Carolina, the Lord gave Rev. Hutchinson the name of a church in a dream, "The Discipleship of Christ" Baptist Church.  Rev. Hutchinson discussed this with his wife Viveca.  Unbeknownst to them God was working certain things out.

When Rev. Hutchinson and his family returned home certain things happened that caused the demise of the small church they joined.  It is said that when God closes one door, He always opens another.  God had already given Rev. Hutchinson the name of the new church and in a special church meeting held September 2003, Rev. Hutchinson was made the pastor of the Discipleship of Christ Baptist Church.

God began to work miracles for the Discipleship of Christ Baptist church.  With in a couple of weeks God provided a building located at 3011 Philadelphia Pike for the new church services.  The following Boards were created: Deacon, Trustee, Usher and Missionary.  The following Ministries were created: Women's, Choir and Anointed Praise Dance.  Sunday School, weekly Bible study classes and Children's Church were organized.  God also provided a Ministerial staff.

Rev. Hutchinson's vision for the "Discipleship of Christ Baptist Church" was to do things the way God wanted them done.  He believed the church's mission is to seek the lost and introduce them to Jesus Christ, to help the sick and provide for those in need.  He believed that the only way the church could do the job that God wanted was to study the word of God.

In August 2005, God called the founder of the Discipleship of Christ Baptist Church, Rev Joseph Hutchinson, home.  Since God established the Discipleship of Christ Baptist Church.  He did not forget it nor did He forsake it.  God had already appointed the new pastor.  In May 2006, Rev. Andre Seals was installed as the new pastor of the Discipleship of Christ Baptist Church.
